Being in the present, one is able to marry reminiscences of the past with foreshadowing’s of the future
- Gabrielle Aquadro
Space is the component in which everything sits, as well as the substance that holds everything together. Quite simply space is the essential element that constituents the physical world; the world in which we as humans live.
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
- Edgar Degas
“To undertake architecture is to give a response in a given time and place by optimising cultural, programmatic, technical, economic and social constraints to the full (Arno Ritter).” This however is no mere set of criteria, as buildings or rather architecture cannot and should not be seen as just a built form, but rather the unconscious entwining of its physical and contextual elements into the ultimate edifice. For a piece of architecture to be read in such a way is no accident, it is the clear resultant of the architects’ process as well as ones individual response within a space.
Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.”
- Claude Monet
Public Art is readily changing and often involves the audience through installation thresholds; similarly I see landscaping as a series of layers that when combined create the ultimate public realm of the senses. The art of landscaping is to seduce. I find that we often compare our attitude towards the landscape as an act of striptease; as we like to reveal the landscape layer by layer. The fusion between landscaping and public art can be highly volatile; however it is this volatile nature that often induces an irreparable experience that will never be forgotten by the viewer.
